My Poetry
My poetry is everything to me.
What it means to me to be a poet,
How I became one in the first place,
The first peom that made me cry,
Everything.
To me, being a poet
Is being able to stitch your words together seemlessly.
To be able not only write your words to your reader for them to read,
But to write them in such a way that they feel eveything you were feeling while you were writing.
Being a poet means showing people how powerful and beautiful words are.
I became a poet because I wanted to have the same affect with my words as others had on me.
I became a poet because one day no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't speak.
I found myself in a suffocating silence,
And then letters just started encircling my mind
Those letters formed words
Words to sentences
And soon, those sentences turned into my every thought that wouldn't come through my mouth
Poetry had never affected me so much.
I'd never found myself wanting to write until that moment.
And after I'd started writing
It flowed through me as naturally as breathing.
Some time later a friend offfered to introduce me to a poet and I agreed to listen.
Words had never affected me so much.
Despite the fact that I couldn't relate to him,
His words consumed me and I felt everything he had felt
While he was speaking the words that he had written,
And for the first time, poetry had made me cry.
It amazed me how him and his words were one.
Like him, my peotry became my language.
It became my escape
My haven
My love
My poetry became my everything.
