My Poetry

When I was a child all I did was hide.

Dad was bipolar.

Mom and Dad only ever fought,

I only wanted to be someplace other.

Next was Mom's rage.

newly divorced, she felt incomplete.

she dated anyone who smiled

entirely ignoring me.

Little brother and I still hid.

from the laughter and disgust

she needed to find a man

we needed to find our mom.

When I reached high school

I found a way to speak.

Pen to paper made me realize,

that I could still be me.

My art was my extension

I finally discovered myself

not only capable of darkness

but able to be friends with someone else.
