My promise to you
I will kill all of the spiders in the house.
I will put two sugars in your coffee when you ask for one because I know that’s what you actually want.
I will hold you close when we watch a scary movie and
I will hold you even closer when you are so sad you can’t move.
I will ask what’s wrong when you seem angry or frustrated or upset and
I will listen to every word you say and give you my best advice.
I will remember the important things like your favorite candy when you are sad.
I will remind you to text our mutual friend happy birthday in case you forget.
I will let you have a piece of my food even though you said you weren’t hungry when I ordered it.
I will let you put your cold toes on my body to warm them up even though it will make me cold.
I will understand that there are days when you don’t want to speak and
I will give you the space you desire without making you feel like I don’t care.
I will respect your privacy and won’t demand anything from you.
I will respect your beliefs and values even if they are different from mine.
I will trust you.
I will meet you half way.
I will let you sleep on me even if you leave a little puddle of drool.
I will know everything about you and
I will love you even more because of it.
I will give you my very best.
You make me want to be a better person, and for that I thank you. Without you I would be fine on my own, but with you I feel invincible. The reason for all of this is… because I love you.
