My Race

“My Race”

I want to be seen on TV,
I just want my mom to be proud of me,
My race is hated,
The president thinks we sell drugs and get faded,
But we got nothing but love,
We protect ours when push comes to shove,
We’ll build your roads and houses,
My race only gets scraps like mouses,
Six people living under one roof,
We can make it out, I’ll be living proof.
Mom’s go no sort of job,
Life’s turning on me like a door knob,
Pop’s was never around,
I still love you pops.
I’ll set an example for my race till my casket drops.
This is the story of a Mexican American,
I’ll be the best I know I can.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
