My Real Name

Sun kissed skin the color of caramel,

dark hair full of curls.

Alone, different, dirty?

Outsider they called her,

outsider she called herself.

But no more.

Love yourself she said.

Say your real name she said.

So she grew.

She evolved and shifted,

color of caramel and full of curls.

Stars in her eyes,

fire in her soul.

Be your true self she says,

say your real name she says.

Maiya she says.
