My Reality
Numb.
My mind goes blank.
A memory lingers in my mind.
The one moment that changed me forever.
The whole room lights up as if Lightning was flowing through the walls.
Smiles morph into tears.
Laughter breaks into screams.
Then it’s over.
Back to reality,
Back into the dark abyss I now call my life.
The faces, they don’t know my story.
So quick to judge me on my greatest fears.
Startled by a simple flash of light,
I’m asked, “Why are you so jumpy?”
“That’s just how I am”, is my guarded reply.
What a lie..
so many more layers to my story.
I hide behind my fears,
But they still protect me.
They don’t want to see a broken girl,
Refusing to look at the real world,
The one I've come to know as my reality.
What happened to my carefree world?
If my fragile façade,
The mask that covers my fears,
Is what happens to keep me alive?
Who are they to judge me..?
