my reason to become someone

I am that young man who grew up dreaming of becoming somebody big, just making a difference because where I come from. I grew up in a little, broken down trailer park in Johnston County, NC. I never knew my real dad and also I barely knew my mom. When I was little my stepdad use to beat my mom. I was between the ages of two and four. I have three sisters, and I always used to take care of them because my mom was a drug addict. I was put in a foster home at the age of four or five. I moved around a lot and went to a couple different homes; they split up me and my sisters. Currently one of my sisters is a year younger than me, another is thirteen, now, and the other is only about eight or nine. When I was five years old I was adopted and so were my sisters. I went with my cousin who I now call my mom, and my sisters went with my other cousin who I now call my aunt. When I was adopted, I only had one outfit and one pair of shoes.

My mom has always told me that I can be anything I want. She says “God didn’t let that happen to you for nothing”. She tells me that I have a story to tell, to let someone know they can do it. I am the oldest out of all my biological sisters, so I want to be the example for them. I just have to be strong and keep it going no matter what. I am a young man who wants to show where I come from means nothing. I can be whatever I want to be. I want to be the young man that even when the odds are against me that I can beat them. I refuse to be another statistic in the world knowing I can be better. I want to show the world and be an example that I can come from nothing and make it somewhere. I want to prove to people in a world were black kids are a statistic, that I am somebody. I have to make it, I will make it, and I refuse to be anything and do anything less.
