My Reason to Live
In the darkness where I began,
You knit me together with threads of light.
In my innocence I held on to your hand,
As You taught me the difference between wrong and right.
With every step I took into the wilderness
You were there to guide the way.
My body grew too weary to carry on,
Yet, you strengthened and sustained me every day
In the midst of discord and corruption
The aroma of the King’s Food lures me astray
Down a murky path, I’m blinded, headed towards destruction.
Wayward and broken, I’m drowning in my dismay.
Without you, I am lost, I have no direction,
I am plagued with sin, this radical infection.
With such ugliness, I run away in shame
Yet You still came down and took the blame.
Undeserving, unfit, guilty, and shameful
My head, lowered, my knees implanted to the ground
As I beg for your forgiveness, I stand forever grateful
That You would die for me in love, that in You I am found.
Sheltered under Your mighty wings,
My mind and spirit are at peace.
When we soar into the boundless blue skies
All thoughts of fear and worry cease.
When I plunge into the unknown, the future that awaits,
The stress overwhelms, the fear overtakes
So I cast these burdens to You, these heavy weights,
The pains, the worries, and all of life’s headaches.
You picked up my pieces and put them together
I became a new creature, I became someone better,
You taught me how to live; what a Perfect Teacher!
Your love lasts forever, and I’m a believer.
You are my world and the air I breathe,
My life belongs to you, I devote and freely give,
For only You know who I truly am underneath
You are my purpose, my reason to live.
