My Reflection

A mirror reflecting imperfections,

Staring at a face engulfed by darkness.

Hair too thin and a soul of rejection,

Wondering why I feel truly heartless.

Hate deafeningly whispers in my ear,

“Wait until puberty, you big mistake;

I hope that you’ll soon leave and disappear

And give your parents the chance of a break.”

Yet, I hear a cry of hope calling me,

“You are no mistake but a gift, my child;

Look past the mirror to grasp God’s glory,

He shines in you, be no longer beguiled.”

I turn off the light and my depression,

My character I now no more question.
