My Rock in Shallow Waters

On an island surrounded by nothing but water

I find myself thinking a lot of my mother

with a welcome smile and eyes of hope

we would make a boat and start to float

or maybe instead we would decide to stay

build a treehouse,

run and play,

but no matter how bad I always know

my mom will swoop in and show

the guided path,

the way of life,

a miracle in any light

then I remember no matter how tough

we will always be two diamonds TOGETHER in the rough.
