My Roots

If I said I was from a predominantly black neighborhood where people talk all night, have cookout on the sidewalk and where violent activity happens “Bang”, would you know where i'm from ?

Well I come from a loving family filled with blunt, jokesters, video game head, anime lovers, home cooking, “You better get to school” type of family. A family that cares strongly about their roots and makes their foundation on family oriented love.

I am from a beginning age of dark beautiful skinned people of kings and queens. Their skin as radiant as the glistening moon.

I am from the motherland of Africa stolen from its riches and fruitfulness to be born on stolen land.

I am from a bloodline of people who have been of people who have been beaten down, hanged, burned, chopped to piece and still rise above to the challenge.

I am from leaders who fought for my rights to pave the way for me just to live as a human being.

I am from a village of people who tells “If you want to succeed in life you have to put the work into it.” Where they help me each step of the way even when I strayed from the path of success.

I am from a home that when the sun sleeps the night doesn't. We hear sirens people talking, music, and “Aaaaaaa” from children playing. When you smell the food coming from many apartments and when you reach yours, the seasoning makes your tummy growl.

Yes you may say I come from many different branches but I will always try to know my main roots
