My Safe Haven
Writing. poetry- it's all so cliche! But it gives me a break, at least for the night.
Angry, upset, emotionally unstable- writing fixes that; like a lifeline- or a safe haven.
Writing is an escape, for five, ten, fifteen minutes I'm not stuck in a world that I cannot stand.
I've escaped. I have escaped to a place where I want to be- a place that wants me.
When I have no where else to go, the paper welcomes me with open arms, and as it caresses my hand the pencil allows me to do with it what I please- my emotions flow and I can breathe again.
Writing is an art, it is everything- when I'm too afraid to speak- it allows me to whisper.
When I'm too upset to think writing does not force me to, it allows me act insane and rant, and scream, and be completely nonsensical- and when I'm finished- when I am done with my rage it forgives me, and I throw the paper away.
It is all so predictable is it not? A writer who writes because they have no other way to express themselves. A writer who writes because- because- well because why? I need to write for the same reason every other writer needs to. It is a need not a want, a craving to write is as natural as someone else thirsting for water.
I can only tell you what I have just said. Any true writer cannot truly tell you why writing is important to me. It just is. It is something that keeps you safe- it keeps you alive. Perhaps that is why writing is important.
