My Savior, Love
Alone on an island in the midst of a sea,
I search the horizon for someone like me.
Waves lap my feet;
Wind breathes on my cheek.
There is an absence of any form or body.
Above, storm clouds quickly gather,
Fed by fear, hate, and bitter anger.
The storm only destroys
And wipes out all joys;
It weighs me down far and farther.
As fear takes root inside my chest,
I find it harder to take a breath.
You're of no worth,
Just a beggar by birth
Echos in my mind causing disrest.
Glancing upwards, something catches my eye,
Beyond the clouds in the distant sky
There's a curious light
That gives hope to my fight.
This force encourages me on--to try.
But I'm still alone on this sandy shore.
The waves crash closer than a moment before.
I gulp another breath.
This storm brings death.
What is it that I can truly live for?
Looking at the soft ray, it becomes clear;
Apart from it I will surely disappear.
I stretch out my hand.
Now I understand.
Live on I cannot without this light's cheer.
Help is now coming from the above;
It is descending like a dove.
It pierces the dark;
The contrast is stark.
Enveloping me is my savior, love.
The sight of waves and clouds blear.
Drawn upwards by light, I now feel dear.
I had no way to live,
Until light decided to give.
I now know love conquers all anger and fear.
