My Second Love

It’s been two years

Since he was mine

A year since I last

kissed him at all.

Six months since we talked

I don’t want him back

He’s so far away now

He’s a stranger.

But oh what I wouldn’t give

to see him and feel nothing

When I see him in public

It makes my heart race

He still has piercing eyes

And a smile that

lights up the sky.

I’m watching him

from far away

He’s smiling

But not at me

You have your hand

around my waist

Or tangled up in mine

You, my second love

Can help me recover

Believe and feel again

But you can’t make

My first love

Any less beautiful

I’m sorry

and thank you for trying
