My Secret

No one can know

Not even the murky black that lurks within

and around my singularity.

No one can know

For I fear the reactionary lashes of the people

who love me impatiently withhold.

No one can know

So I whisper it to myself when I'm alone

quieter than the dead breezes.

No one can know

Because even the dead have eyes and ears

sitting by the gravestones in the moonlight.

No one can know

Who I bleed for, who I breathe for, who I burn for

Who I love beyond all else.

No one can know

That I'm gay

not even you.
