My Silent Promises
I told you I’d never break a promise
But here you are as proof I did
How did it come to this
The heartbreak I forbid
I told you I’d be there for you
I guess I screwed that up
I thought it was true
That we’d see it through
Now I’m here and trying not to cry
Well at least I tried
And my stomach’s sick
Going to take a trip
To the bathroom now
I’m going down
All I see is the floor
I’m broken at the core
I wished you died in my arms
So I could apologize
I’ve broken all these promises
All these people try to sympathize
But they don’t know
My silent promises
The bond we had
No one will ever truly know
Really it’s too bad
Not like you’re left to show
Oh if I could only show them
The dreams you made
Destroyed like a grenade
The joy of your laugh
Only in photographs
The way you said my name
No one else said it the same
I promised you in my head
I’d be there for you
You’ll be okay I should have said
But I guess that’s a lie too
And now you’re asleep
Oh how I beg you to wake
It hurts too deep
What a life to take
A treasure
Just to admire
A pleasure
Brilliant like fire
Please wake up
I promise I’ll be there this time
A shame it took this to happen for me to notice
Your suffering… Come on it’s daytime
I can’t focus
Your pale face blurry with tears
Why did I let you down
I can’t imagine your fears
You won’t make a sound
