My Silent Resistance

You are determined to hate me

My existence

You claim to be afraid

Of what I am

But you very well know I am nothing to fear

Only something to hate

Someone to blame

Just like the rest of my people

Our mere living strikes you with grief

While our living is only an accomplishment

Because of people like you

Because you feel the need to end us

We are not people to you

So it drives you

To slaughter

Forty-nine in one sitting

And you would praise it

But they were living, breathing

Even if you see us as thieves and degenerates

Say what you will, but we will remain

In silent resistance

To prove you wrong

We will survive

We will thrive

In your harshness of a sandstorm

We will cloak ourselves and each other

Until the day you can fight no longer

Because we are

A forever unwavering resistance

Of beauty
