My Silver Lining

There is a thin line between love and hate. In the midst of something so ugly, beauty can always be found. A love was lost, sure, but looking back I would not call it love. It was a pathway. The Phoenix burning so passionately in the flames that then only dies to be born again out of its ashes. Much was taken away from me; my levelheadedness, my ability to judge character and even my sweater collection. Destruction fell upon me. His rage was a giant wave that washed away all of the shells on my shore. I couldn't grieve for long. A lion heart has come and he shall replenish my soil with love. He will then plant the most beautiful of flowers and stay long after to water them. Before, I was taken to galleries and now I am awarded with paintings crafted just for me by the short man with the cuffed jeans and dress shoes and he calls me "love." A words so unfamiliar to me because the one before spoke not of it. Before; I lived in a cave, such a dark cave. Now I am exposed to sunlight for I am living in a glass house with the one who says my smile is indeed his yellow paint. I think he was miserable before. Is it narcissistic to say that I may be his silver lining? If he ever were to express this, I would respond "likewise." The one before was so masochistic and I giggle when I say that because could it be true that he was also the biggest narcissist I know? That is what I like about this one. While he is intricate, delicate, and diverse, he is not complicated. Even on his best days, the one before danced in the rain jumping in the puddle titled "self loathing" every time. The one before made me feel fire. I had mistaken this sensation for good burning. The short man in the cuffed jeans and dress shoes tells me something good should not burn. He says that real love should be all consuming but never misery invoking. I am thankful for my lion heart. He picked me up out of the damp darkness that the one before had consumed me in. The short man in the cuffed jeans and dress shoes who thinks I am a work of art is my silver lining.
