My Singing Shoes

When my shoes talk to me it’s summer

Click, clack, flip, flop against my heels.

I can hear the ocean too

The warm sand tickles my toes

Salty air fills my lungs.

My flip flops tell me it’s summer.

But so do the gulls

Laughing, cackling, singing in the breeze.

I walk a thousand steps and my toes see the world

Little canvases, themselves, being shown off.

When my shoes make music, my head sings along

Click clack flip fop click clack flip flop

A faster tempo if I’m late.

Sometimes my bike spokes sing along too.

In the winter my feet are silent

And so is my head

When the mercury hits 70, my feet will sing

And summer will start

And joy will begin

And it will start all over again.
