My Sister

We were loud

Unashamed and violent

In our fights words

Hugs and all

Growing up.

We were scared

We thought everything

Had an end

Love

Family

And even us.

We were bright

Our happiness glared

Victories

Even the losses.

Now

We're all of those

And more.

We are loud

But quiet too.

Our embraces softer

But firm

(Because we don't know if they'll be our last).

We are scared

But braver too.

Our stances larger

And our hands held tighter

(Because we now know nothing can come between us).

We are bright

The brightest yet

Our heads held high

And our eyes defiant

(Because experience and time past only polish our bond).
