To My Sister
How to say this?
What words to use?
Is there a phrase that could describe you?
How long have I known you?
Almost sixteen years I think, yet it feels much longer, a million years perhaps.
A billion songs, I’ve heard you sing.
You sing of nothing, but it sounds so sweet to me.
Ah, and when you sing of things, I sing along.
How oft you dance around the room and fill it with joy?
How oft you’ve made me smile with your kindness?
How long have you been so kind?
What has made you so?
What pain has stabbed you like a knife to wipe away your sweet smile and leave you only tears?
So many times you’ve wiped my tears far away. May I wipe yours?
You lover of art, you lover of knowledge, you lover of God, how your passions touch me.
They speak to my very soul.
When I shall think of you, what will I remember?
The sweet taste of your cookies, perhaps.
The sight of your joyous smile, closer I think.
When I shall think of you, I will only remember you.
You, my beloved sister.
Destined to leave, to become a thing of legend.
A story for all to remember.
For, as a child, you were great to me.
A princess for all to admire.
As I age, your legend only grows in my eyes.
My childhood hero, who has won much greater.
There have been those who have seen me as less.
I seek for their love, but yours is always there,
Right there,
At the moment I need it.
Some may ask, why I look up to you so?
Because you are you.
You have loved every bit of me,
And I love every bit of you.
To my sister unlike any other,
For your growth has inspired growth in me.
