In My Skin

I remember when everything was black and white, But skin color didn't mean a thing. I remember when a smile from him and from them All meant the same thing. I remember when I felt sorry for myself, Because my skin made me a person to blame. I remember and can still feel when my ears were assaulted and they wanted to cry Because they would remember that hateful, atrocious, vitriolic word everyday of my life. I remember and can still feel my electrifying epiphany... I cam to realize: I am beautiful. And I began to strut my natural chocolate coat. Like a peacock during the mating season, Or a panther that ain't afraid to walk out in the light. I remember and still feel the pity for the people who will stay ignorant, Cus to them skin means everything.
