My Son

My son

I watched you grow
And I watched you die
I saw you well
And I saw you sick
Then sickness took over
And the well days were rare
I thought you were just sick
But never did I know
You were out of drugs
And you would say
I hurt all over and I can't eat a thing
How would I have known
This was how an addict feels
When they need their drugs
And no money to buy
If you could have made it
For just a little bit longer
Maybe I would have known
Why my son was so sick
But today I'm educated
And know so much more
I vow to this day
To remember my son
As I speak to others
Who live the same way
And promise to help
However I can
To keep you alive
And make you proud again...

In memory of my son
