My Song

All my life

I've had words

I cannot remember a time without these words

Sometimes they're pounding, aching, screeching

All my life

I've had this knowledge that I couldn't quite share

My voice is funny, they say

Too low for a girl's, they say

I have a lisp, they say

What are you, like twelve?, they say

If I could sing, I would

But this freedom

My mind is limitless

To let me speak

Without judgement

I am free

With these lines, I am free
