My Sonnet
My heart longs for you,
Not as a lover does,
But in the way a mother loves.
From your toothless grins
And smelly naps,
To wrapping you in swaddling wraps.
My heart longs for you,
In a mother's way,
As in every Mother's day.
From your wild-baby runs,
To your banging toys,
And your laughing, playful, boy-ish joys!
My heart longs for you,
Not in the way the girlies do,
But from every moment raising you!
From your toddling daydreams,
To your rambunctiousness.
And how you've made quite the mess.
My heart longs for you,
As my son,
A mother sharing her mother's love.
From your martial arts,
To your many skills,
And how God gave you many thrills.
May you ever be blessed,
Abundantly so.
And I'll always request,
For you to remember,
My heart longs for you,
As a mother loves her son.
