MY SOUL IS NOT FOR SALE

Although many grow old in years, they refuse to remove these rose-colored glasses.

Growing old is not in years, and not in the obsession of material possessions.

It’s not in the refusal of mindfulness, and the substitution of money for our souls.

We claim to be human, yet we market our humanity.

We claim we can be selfless, yet we have surrendered ourselves.

Like wide eyed bugs, we are all drawn to these glowing lights of materialism and consumerism.

Replacing feelings with tables and chairs, houses and cars.

Staking a sign, plastered with red paint screaming ‘FOR SALE’, through our hearts and into our souls.

Curse your muddied hands, you dealer of innocence and youth, for you like all others have sacrificed your soul for the empty fulfillment of a mask of happiness.

We have degraded our brothers and sisters to a tool, a rock or a piece of dirt.

Growing up doesn’t mean keeping our blind eyes wide lest we ever miss this new-found, invisible commodity labeled; ‘HUMANITY’.

Growing up is removing our rose petal glasses and realizing the sand of our souls slipping through our fingers now weakened by the loss of purpose, alienated to ourselves by the crimes they have committed.

Unintentionally ripping our core from our bodies, letting our soul pour out and recoil at the sight of irreversible actions of our mindless hands; now seeming less out of place as our bodies are slowly consumed by rotten purity.

Growing up is breaking free of control with characteristic immoderation.
