My Spirit Refuses to Sing

My spirit refuses to sing,

In spite of the most cheerful things,

This heart doth sorrow and weep,

Even when I am asleep,

Why, oh heart, do you cry?

Why, oh soul, do you sigh?

Has one been untrue,

That you are so blue?

Do you know yet,

Why you so fret?
