My Star

The smell of the grass

After a fresh cut

The feel of a heavy blanket

Fresh out of the dryer

The sound of the ocean

As it meets the sand

The taste of cotton candy

At the fair in October

The sight of stained glass

Shimmering in the sun

Memories filled with smiles

Memories filled with you

Picnics

Muesuems

Cafes

Forests

Backroads

Nights when we were happy

The day when everything changed

It wasn't gradual

It was sudden

One day you were smiling

The next you were lost to me

I’ll never forget the call

Your mother bawling

I was numb

I am numb

I love you

And I love the star that you have become

Every night

I look to you

I hope you keep

A spot open for me

When I can join you
