My story

Jonquil the street, the projects I stayed Every night I prayed my father betrayed He left- POOF- leaving my mother with nothing Kissed and hugged us in front of people, but they knew something Played that role good as hell like Kermit did the Muppets We ducked and hid from the silver bullets Until my uncle was hit When I found out that Wednesday I stayed home sick After his death my family was torn apart Like the gangs and the drugs didn’t tear it from the start But we acted like a family and played it off Told to act tough ‘cuz I was bullied so nobody could say I was soft Happy during the day but home alone with no heat and water Sat in silence and cried about my father Asking god like,” why would he do this to his daughters?” I thought it was because I was dark and different in all But soon found out he been doubting since the day I could crawl Told, “Never depend on a man ‘cuz he gone break ya heart and u gonna look like a fool But the only heartbreak I had and still do is from you I still don’t see how you gone take care of four kids When you couldn’t take care of two But without you I could be from now on it’s cool I wanted to tell you how I’m doing in and outside of School How I took your advice and looked like a fool Closed off from family, but now I’m tired of the silence Wars in my head not it’s time to stop the violence It starts with you time to break away from your baggage and seal you for good I will be better than you and make it out of the hood And when I’m older you’ll see That I will be a phenomenal woman and be A great mom to my children you’ll see I will do and give them everything times two And I love myself before I'll love a man like you Now I’m done talking from a Phenomenal woman phenomenally a phenomenal woman that's me!
