My Sun

You were my sun
Shooting your rays across my universe
Giving your warmth to my world
My everything surrounded by your light
Then your light tarted to dim
The edges of my universe grew cold
Until the light and warmth shone down
Focusing solely on me
I basked in it, letting it consume me
I didn’t notice the skies darkening
Or the coldness encroaching me
I was too bedazzled by my sun
Until one day you burnt out
…then disappeared completely
I looked all around my universe
Searching for your light to guide me
The darkness and cold burned me
Taking warmth from my radiating skin
I put what I could deep inside me
Before it would all be taken away
I was left cold and pale
With marks where your rays kissed my skin
Left blind without my light
I couldn’t see the beauty of my world

One day my sight began to return
My world fading back into focus
A warmth within me burned
Fueling my body with life
Letting my skin radiate again
Everything as it should be
But not quite as it once was
There was a sun in the sky
But it wasn’t my sun
It gave light to my world
But now everything cast shadows
I went through the world
Seeing it was no longer mine
Still beautiful but with no paradise
Darkness along with the light
So I take the warmth from within
The last from my sun I tucked away
And I let it burn through me
And have it guide me everyday
