My Voice
It happened to me
It can happen to anyone
It happened in my own apartment
It happened in my own bed
I knew him
I trusted him
My no meant nothing cause he kept going
He looked me in the eyes
As I was beggining him to stop
I spoke, but I wasn't heard
I begged, but no mercy
I cried, yet no sympathy
Your selfish desires consumed you
My "Nos" went right through you
I could cry and be ashamed
I could be silent and be the one to blame
Or I can take a stand
And have my voice heard
Without a voice
I leave no choice
But to allow this to happen again
To allow such things to be okay
It is not okay
My voice will be present and persistent
No longer dismissive
It wasn't heard then
But it will be heard now
He degraded me
He violated me
But he did not destroy me
Rape will not define me
I'm gonna take control now
I'm gonna be heard
