My Voice, My Power

I lay the paper on the desk and pen on the paper Then the two make a connection like lifelong lovers The pen speaks words to the paper Sometimes words of kindness, sometimes cruelty, but mostly power The pen communicates a power I had never noticed before The power to influence For the greater good or the greater bad The power to change you The power to make or break you Power which only comes from the hand The hand of someone with an open mind to share with the pen When I picked up that pen, I knew I had the power That pen became my voice That paper became my microphone And my mind, my mind became my power My God given power
