My Walls

My walls are beautiful
high and strong
protecting me from those
who wish me harm

My walls were constructed
after many long years
I toiled to months
to make them firm

My walls keep out
those who scare me
but they also trap me inside
very much alone

My walls are solid
I forgot a door
so down and down
I tore my walls

My walls are down
and then I met you
why did I ever hide
inside

My walls are far behind
I remember why I left
but now I am out
in the cold

My walls protected me
from the world
and you reminded me
of why.
