This is My World
This Is My World
Where do I begin to explain
How it feels to know there are more unhappy people
In the world today with their fake smiles
And sunny yellow dresses
And bleak, monotone laughter
Where do I even begin to express how it feels
To know that not many people even notice or care to notice.
So many of us walk around with blinders to the world
The music in our headphones blaring or
The fingers on the keyboard click clacking away
Wrapped up in a conversation with someone who isn’t even there.
Someone, who maybe isn’t even important.
Too busy to notice the person next to us who cheerfully says “hi”
But the expression on their face is so fake
I’m afraid it might crumble and fall given the slightest chance
Where do I begin in telling you that
That person is about ready to explode
Like a volcano, spewing lava over everyone, just so they
Can feel better, and paste another smile on their face at 6 A.M
And continue getting ready for the day.
Where do I begin to tell you that I’ve been there.
So many times, that the cheerful smile turns more into a smirk
And the sunny yellow dress is put high up in the closet
To gather dust, in exchange for a dark colored shirt
And the monotone laughter is locked up tight in a box so
Nothing is heard but silence.
And the silence goes unnoticed
Where do I even explain
How deafening silence can be and how eventually
That person who said “hi” to you is lost in the crowd
Did you notice?
And the silence becomes the status quo
Zip your lip and keep this secret
Where do I begin to explain
That this person
Is me.
