My World Slows, but It Does Not Stop

There are a lot of things that make me smile

But I think you're the winner

I find myself smiling less when you’re away

And when you’re near I find myself fighting a helpless grin

That's not all you do, though

You inspire me to want better, to be better

To want to be better

I want to experience the newness of each day

And you drive me to go out and look at the world with my changed eyes

Everything just seems much more vibrant with you

Then, every so often, when you're gone

But I don't despair, there's still joy in the world

Even if it does seems like there's just a little less out there

I can live my life happily, so I always do

Though my heart can sometimes ache, it doesn't stop

The world keeps turning, despite the sting of your absence

There are still things that can give me comfort

My smiles do not belong to you alone

But for your winner's prize, you got to keep a sizeable amount for yourself

So I just patiently wait for your return

For the brighter edges of the world to creep back in with you

Like rays of sunshine slinking sneakily into the room

Because I love you
