The Myth

“What kind of –ese are you?”

“Can you speak Chinese.”

“Say something in Chinese.”

They think I’m a toy

A china doll for their enjoyment

I grew up believing that Asians are genetic intellectuals

When I was 13, my mom told me that the US only lets in Asians that qualify,

Asians that they can engineer into china dolls

They want us to sit passive,

Yield to the will of our dominators

And smile— because we’re the model minority
