The Myth of Heroism

It happened all at once

Like a blurry mess of moments

Bubbled into one

Indistinguishable

I couldn’t stop it

It was happening too fast

And I was failing to keep up

-

I couldn’t believe it. It just didn’t seem real.

What am I supposed to do now that it’s all over.

I dedicated my whole life to this.

Well, I did say it was too good to be true

It was all gone in an instant

A breath released

That’s all it took

For the magic to disappear

And leave me lost once again

Champion for a moment

Hero for a decade

A legend no longer needed
