The Up n' Up

Do you feel that?

The cool breeze rushing through your hair

Facing the strong draft of air, eyes closed, head up high

The feeling where you're as light as a feather

About to slowly drift away to  new location

But for the time being you're still at the end of the deck

Underneath the full moon

Living amoungst many constellations

For now the only one pointed out is the Big Dipper

Noted for it's existance

Out here in the wilderness

Light is not only cast across the sky tonight

Flames dancing along the ashes of redwood

Sand thriving between our toes

Laughter is about, for friends are near and far

Soon tall tales will be around and about

Then off to sleepy eyes where dreams await.

In high school I was inspired to start writing by my English teacher and the poem known as 'I Carry Your Heart with Me (I carry it in)' by E. E. Cummings. Poetry Out Loud was an event that occurred every year at the school and during my freshmen year of participating I instantly became hooked not just writing but in poetry. To me poetry is one way I can express my self openly, something I normally feel uncomfortable doing. Something I think all poets and writers as one have in common. Don't you agree?
