Naked

Naked and afraid I stay, quiet and alert

I'm waiting for cruel remarks, avoiding the hurt

that comes with words and images unclean

from boys and girls condescending and mean

using words that pack a powerful punch

I look different, singled out of the bunch

and yet through all distraught I feel unique

an individual classy and chic

one who hides behind the camera lens

and does not wear makeup to impress friends

my secrets unfurled I'm an open book

no filters to mask my natural look

though many may sneer or belittle me

my body image exemplifies glee

I am my parents' daughter let it be

Naked and no longer afraid, I'm free
