Naked Truth

She looked in the mirror

with disgust and anger.

She squeezed her stomach

and sucked it in as far as she could.

She stepped on the scale.

Her feet were pale.

and she couldn’t even read the numbers

her vision had blurred

like her vision of herself

As she ran her fingers up her wrists and thighs

feeling the ripple of scars and scabs

She turns on the shower

and let’s out a sigh.

She opens the curtain

and steps in the tub.

she violently starts to cry.

She’s all alone

and she thinks to herself

I wish I could just die.

She whimpers in silence

and whispers her sadness

but nobody will ever hear

because nobody understands her tears.

“You’re beautiful, now shut up”

They say

“You’re skinny and pretty”

She hears it every day

but what she needs to hear is

“It's going to be okay.”

because sometimes she doesn’t know

if she can even make it through the day.
