Nameless

She was fallen, she was broken She was riddled full of holes She was hiding from it all In an apathetic world She would walk the halls Like one already dead, Ignoring the jokes And the things aimed at her head She was torn up inside But never let it show If ever someone knew, it would spell the death of her soul. At night she would go home and hide in her room Sometimes wishing she had never left the womb Her father never showed his face And her mother never cared, It was easy to believe she was alone in this world She would sit at home and write of things she'd never said About the hell inside, Of the prison of her head She wrote about her pain, She wrote about her shame Still no one understood Why she never smiled Or why she never spoke up in class Or why she never bothered She was fallen, she was broken But she refused to lose to cold She fought her own mind for the rights to her soul She was winning every battle But her resolve was getting low It was only a matter of time Before she crossed the line Before she finally snapped She was losing her war inside She knew she couldn't go much longer But she didn't want anyone else to suffer She walked through the halls Like one already dead Ignoring the jokes And the things thrown at her head She exuded apathy But she never stopped caring She walked through the halls Like one already dead So no one felt surprised at the bullet through her head But then they found the poems And saw the pain in her life And they felt hurt for never showing her That despite the jokes Despite the lies They always could see through her disguise They tried to cover up and act like she was fine They refused to hear the truth of the prison of her mind But they never understood just what her pain was for So they just pretended That her façade was still in force This ultimately led to the death of their friend The friend who never spoke Who never even laughed But the one who was there To help them when they crashed The one who was smart, Who had a real future Was the one who lost her hope The one who deserved to be loved like no other Was the one who felt death So no one would suffer This made them all think About where their actions had led And the finally realized the hell in her head So they went to the funeral Of the friend they had lost And grieved for their actions That had had such a cost. Now her grave is strewn with roses every day of every year a decade has passed But still they regret The jokes and the jabs That led to the pain And gave birth to her fears The sorrows and the loss Of the one they held so dear
