Names to Faces
Until you lose your name with the title of the race God has given you;
until you lose your rights to fall in love with someone who doesn’t share the same facial features or the same skin tone;
until you are mocked by the shape of your eyes or flatness of your nose;
until you are ashamed of admitting the type of food you eat every night;
until you are mistaken for a race that you are clearly not;
until you become ashamed of your language because it doesn’t sound “right”;
until you become insecure due to the lack of the pale face, freckles, or light blonde hair;
until you become a generalization;
until you feel the need to dress like people who aren’t your own kind to be a part of them;
until you begin to lose your culture;
do you realize that I do have a name, and it’s not Asian.
