Nashville
Feeling the scorching heat rolling off your skin
As you walk the hilly streets.
But here it’s a sweet heat,
That just soaks into your body.
Walking down these streets
Listening as the candy-coated notes
Glaze over and penetrate your mind. A sugar rush.
As if the melodies were your own candy store.
Hearing the twangy tunes
Bubbling out from bars and restaurants
Like a continuous creek
Winding its way through the tourist filled street
Then from the narrowed sidewalks
Are the ones trying to be found,
With their beat up guitar case
And a fist full of change at the ground.
Come from afar
To live out their dreams
The waiters before
Might one day be more.
They serve us our food
And they are nobody,
But then wait a few years
And watch, they’ll be somebody.
Like the kid at BB Kings serving you gumbo and rice,
Who just moved down here last week,
Sayin’ he’s a singer believing this move
Will eventually have paid the price.
For this is what this town does
And why people love it so much,
Scorching heat and all
They will always come to be more.
But I have just come for fun
To live out my dreams? Yes.
But unlike others, living in the heart of this music
Will be fulfilling my dream enough.
Because while they have all come here to make it big,
I have just come here to play.
