The Nat King Cole Romance

It all started in September
I was a little tipsy and you were intrigued
I struggled with relationships
And so did you
We were different
I was wild and you were tame
You tried to get my attention
While I drunkenly entertained
Weeks later
You told my friend, I had the prettiest face
“Don’t waste your time,
She’s too crazy for you.”
Months went by
And we met again
You were nervous
Quiet, shy, and incredibly modest
You whispered
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved in return.”
