Navy

Navy is the  slick on the  rocks, pulling me toward the darkening sea. It is the cold of the waves, beckoning beneath the storm-filled sky. Navy flits over my tongue with an unexpected bitterness. It is the taste of solitude under a starless sky. It is the smell of salt, stolen from the lonely sea. Navy is the sound deep inside that draws me to the waters edge.

From the shore, navy is what separates me from heaven. It is mother nature's cover for things best unseen; it is the snake holes, the sand bar drop offs, the glimpse of shadows. Navy is deceptive, a mysterious hue between black and fear. It whispers, to me, an almost imperceptible lie, leaving me unsure as to whether it was a lie at all. Navy is the chilled night air that steals my fleeting breath. It is the feeling of uninvited eyes. It is the color you see as you descend beneath, the last color seen before the eternal sleep.
