A Necessary Start
Worrying about the future and what will unfold
Is it warm and inviting or a blistering cold
Not knowing makes my head rattle
Fear and courage in a battle
It’s too early to say defeat
I need to stand on my own feet
I take a deep breath and shift my car into park
Check my surroundings and hear distant dog bark
Looking at the fortress that I need to invade
This is how the game of life has always been played
I head to the door
Completely unsure
Of what I’m in for
Excitement or bore
I hope I don’t snore
During this chore
Sitting in my seat
Tapping my feet
To a comforting beat
Clutching my sheet
Observing their fleet
That I’m soon to meet
I twiddle my thumbs and hold out my paper
Try to stay calm, as I melt into vapor
Stare fear in the eyes and hope that greater
Please! Please! Please! Just don’t make me the waiter
The atmosphere seems pretty nice
I assumed it was made of ice
Maybe a job won’t be so bad
It’d stop the nagging from my dad
I wouldn’t mind to make some cash
Because it gets spent in a flash
By the time I try to stop it
I’m stuck with an empty pocket
It’s official, I’m an employee
It’s time to show them what I can be
I’ll sweep floors and clean toilets
Vacuum, grab the cord, coil it
Do anything the boss ask me
Make sure it’s done exactly
I have a feeling of maturity
I want to do right, give some courtesy
I know this event changed me, surely
I felt it alter my brain thoroughly
I want to make my way up to the top
Make C.E.O., but that won’t be the stop
I promise I won’t quit
I have to finish it
I’ll show everybody what I can be
I cannot let anything limit me
But that obstacle won’t disappear
I have to break through the wall of fear
This will take courage, that is clear
I won’t let my body shed a tear
Though I know I’m just a mere
Kid with a dream, everyone should hear
The first step is what you have to adhere
But don’t do it sad, do it with a cheer
This is the beginning of the Journey of me
This will show me what I should be
