Necessity

What constitutes necessity?

I have so many things

I have clothes, and books, and music, and friends

but I know I could get by being naked

and if I never read a book again

and if I never hung out with another friended

or listened to my favorite bands

I would be fine.

I know the ways of nature

and could thrive alone on an island

I could sleep on a bed of rocks if I had to

and eat bugs if I really had to

but necessity is something I need more than anything

A dog.

I would take a puppy with me

I would feed it and watch grow

we could be friends and I know

I said I don't need friends but maybe what I meant is

I don't need my human friends

I don't know how I got on this deserted island

maybe it was an escape attempt

a successful one

an escape from those who around me who 24/7 make me want to

claw my own eyes out.

A dog.

A dog is perfect

when I'm upset my dog comes to comfort me

which is more than I can say about 

those other individuals who surround me

I need a dog because a dog needs me

the two of us could be the coolest of friends

We can swim in the blue exotic

waters

and ascend the tallest point of the island

we would hunt sleep eat dance fight and run

with one another

which is more than I can say about

those individuals who surround me

Neccessity is a dog who knows nothing

but to be by my side

to live with me

and to help me thrive
