The Necessity of Conflict

A beautiful mistress, in a long black dress
I speak not of a woman, but of life.
Through her beauty, she causes much distress.
Appealing to our greed, she causes much strife.
By using the power of allurement, she captures us.
With her beauty to which there is little resistance,
She steals from us all that we possess
In this cruel and mighty existence.
What seems to be true, is in fact fallacy
And what appears to be false is fact.
The tricks life plays grant us our mortality,
For if life were easy, we would have no tact.
This would result in the loss of all sanity,
For life without conflict would be trivial.
Without it blank would be the tapestry
On which the history of life is made material.
