Needing the Bittersweet

One central thought, just one mere idea,

Has the power to both build me up

and tear me down.

The center of my being,

My entire essence wrapped up

into one single belief.

Without it, I wouldn't be who I am today.

My strength is found in hope,

In the belief that no matter how strong the storm is today

tomorrow will be better.

Hope in the future gives me comfort,

But while waiting for the good to come

my expectations are often too high.

And the devasting reality becomes massive.

Because hope is like a double edged sword

With it you risk heartache,

but without it you risk never seeing the beauty of the world.

I can live without heartbreak,

But I refuse miss experiencing the wonders of a better tomorrow,

whether it be real or imagionary.

All I need is hope.
