A Negro Womans Soul

Does the soul cry its self to sleep?

Or does it fly away in a dream?

I 'd rather lie away in silence.

Feel the pain and bleed.

I was hurt and fearful.

Happiness I need.

I beg not for joy.

I ask for love and peace.

And with that comes laughter.

Crept up from beneath.

Now my soul cries tears of joy.

Eyes open still in a dream.

Live my days as if i were sleep.

I guess you could say my soul was at peace.

Tyheri Jones

I am a Afro-Caribbean woman and I am in search of a school that is accepting of my religion and heritage. I am on a path to pursue a degree in psychology so that I can council adolescents who face the same discrimination as I. Being of Nigerian decent, half African American and Jamaican, I have struggled with being accepted not only for my accent but for my hair, skin tone and religion.
